Engineer graduated from an engineer school, beginner or with a few years experience, you will work on the pre-project studies of the PERSEUS program of the Centre National d'Etudes Spatiales (CNES), Directorate of Launchers.
GAREF PARIS is one of the CNES partners for the PERSEUS project, responsible for electrical system studies and system studies, for technology demonstrators of the nano-satellites' future launcher.

CNES is offering 18-month contracts to junior engineers at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou. Working knowledge of French is necessary. Priority will be given to non-French nationals of ESA Member States.
1- Quality assurance engineer for telemetry, tracking and flight safety systems. The incumbent will ensure the risk levels in tracking, telemetry and flight safety systems are respected, and that quality requirements are met. The incumbent will also actively participate in launch campaign and countdown operations. Requested training and skills: general engineering diploma, with a preference in electronics, telecommunications, and signal processing or electro mechanics, with an interest or experience in quality assurance.
2- Quality assurance engineer for electrical power and air conditioning systems The incumbent will ensure the risk levels in electrical power and air conditioning systems are respected, and that quality requirements are met. Background: Applicants must come from a CVA member city and meet the following requirements: have student status and be at least 20 years of age when applying; have a good knowledge – oral and written – of at least one of the two official CVA languages (English and French) together with a working knowledge of the other language, as well as good knowledge of multimedia tools. Knowledge of another CVA language (Italian, Spanish or German) would be an asset.
Tasks: Detailed tasks and assignments will be determined with the selected candidate depending on his/her skills and experience. Applicants with skills in the following areas may apply:
• communication and outreach
• multimedia (to improve and update website, including, if possible, integration of animated images and videos)
• graphics (to help with the design of reports, brochures, posters, etc.)
• events planning and organisation
• database management
• translation.
Place of internship: The CVA Office at: 94 bis avenue de Suffren, 75015 Paris. It is not far from the Eiffel Tower and about 3 minutes’ walk from the Headquarters of the European Space Agency (ESA), where certain facilities will be accessible to the intern. Other space-related associations are at the same premises as the CVA, such as the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and the Eurisy Association.
Period of the internship and working times: 3 to 4 months (between January and June 2011 – exact dates to be agreed between the interested parties). Monday to Friday, 35 hours/week (9-12 and 13:30-17:30). Two days’ leave may be taken per month. Compensation package: The selected student will receive €400 net per month. Lunch on working days may be taken at the nearby ESA Restaurant at very affordable rates. Travel expenses will only be paid for travel done at the CVA’s request.
Internship agreement: It is mandatory that an internship agreement is signed between the university where the selected student is studying and the CVA (based on his/her university’s up-to-date template).
Office equipment: The intern must bring his/her own laptop computer. CVA can if necessary provide insurance cover for it.

“Youth in Action”
For your information Peuple & Culture (CVA’ partner) has requested funding from the European Commission in the framework of the project mentioned above. Provided funds are granted, this project should take place from 6th to 14th December 2010 in French Guiana. The official answer from the European Commission will be known by mid-October 2010.
This intercultural training for youth leaders with a scientific component is meant for coaches or young people who are involved in structures of the civil society in the 5 represented countries (France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium) and who wish to implement themselves, in the future, international youth exchanges, e.g. in the frame of the programme “Youth in action”. We aim at giving the participants the theoretical backgrounds and the methodological tools related to the supervision of intercultural youth exchanges. We also wish to deliver to them the pedagogical ways of examining space related issues as well as the challenges and the limits of its exploitation as well as carrying out scientific workshops. Finally, we wish to initiate a fruitful exchange and an intense reflection upon the different political, historical, cultural, social and economical realities of the involved countries.
If you are interested by this project – provided funds are granted by the European Commission – as the trip is planned on next December, we invite you to spread out this information around you to find candidates from today onwards.
Who and how to recruit: coaches or young people involved (from 18 to 27 years old) to be selected following this repartition:
France: Guiana (4 young persons)

Selection: performed under condition previously mentioned, in respect of international quotas balance, on a 1st come/1st serve basis.
The group will gather 24 persons (20 young people from 18 to 27 years old accompanied by 2 coaches (German and French) 1 translator (French/German/English) and 1 speaker from the Youth and Sport Ministry of French Guiana.
Cost to be foreseen per participant: 30% of travel expenses from your City Departure to Guiana. I.e.: a flight from Bremen to Cayenne today costs 800 €/30% = 240 €. + 200 € for lodging, meals and pedagogic expenses, the participation fee will be around 440 €.
Besides Guyanese participants, we can welcome 1 or 2 participants from the Continent. However no subsidy is provided in this case by Youth in Action programme from the European Commission. The total cost will have to be supported by the participant (or charged to the City that agrees on covering the expenses: around 1 220 €)

Background: Applicants may come from any CVA member city. Additional requirements would be: to have student status and be at least 18 years of age. Place of work: At CVA office: 94 Bis rue de Suffren F-75015 Paris. CVA Office is located very close to the Head Office of the European Space Agency (ESA), where some facilities will be accessible by the intern. The CVA office is also not far from the Eiffel Tower. Other space-related associations share the same office floor, such as the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and the EURISY association.
Period of the internship and working times: For 3 or 4 months (starting preferably from March 2010) 35h/week (Monday to Friday: 9h-12h /14h-18h). Two days of leave may be taken per month.
Compensation package: The selected student will receive a modest scholarship of 400 € net per month. Lunch on working days may be taken at the nearby ESA cafeteria at very affordable rates.

I am in my second year of engineering school (4th year of computer science studies) and about to graduate in computer sciences next year. However, thanks to my training (C++, embedded systems ...), I am willing to consider any other topic in computer engineering.
