Dear CVA friend, CNES is offering 18-month contracts to junior engineers at the Guiana Space Centre in Kourou. Working knowledge of French is necessary. Priority will be given to non-French nationals of ESA Member States.

1- Quality assurance engineer for telemetry, tracking and flight safety systems. The incumbent will ensure the risk levels in tracking, telemetry and flight safety systems are respected, and that quality requirements are met. The incumbent will also actively participate in launch campaign and countdown operations. Requested training and skills: general engineering diploma, with a preference in electronics, telecommunications, and signal processing or electro mechanics, with an interest or experience in quality assurance.

2- Quality assurance engineer for electrical power and air conditioning systems The incumbent will ensure the risk levels in electrical power and air conditioning systems are respected, and that quality requirements are met. Requested training and skills: general engineering diploma, with a preference in electrical power systems and/or air conditioning systems, with an interest or experience in quality assurance.

JOB OFFER DP N° 10.08 Arianespace is the world’s leading supplier of launch Service & Solutions, through its family of Ariane 5, Soyuz and Vega launchers.

It is looking for a: MECHANIC ENGINEER MISSION : As part of the launch team, reporting to the head of the “Fluid and Mechanical Systems Department” unit, you will take part in preparations for the launch of Ariane 5 (and in the near future for the two other launchers in the family, Soyuz and Vega) concerning fluid mechanics systems.

In particular, your responsibilities will include:

• Writing procedures and preparing standard and special operational plans.

• Conducting final launcher preparations and launch operations.

• Overseeing feedback from activities during the launch campaign.

• Following-up of launcher/ground system upgrades from the standpoint of fluid operational interfaces with the launcher and the upper composite, as well as associated installations.

• Ensuring compliance with quality standards.

These activities call on an array of mechanical and electromechanical techniques used in the aircraft industry, as well as knowledge of fluid, measurement and control-command technologies. You will be working in a team of engineers, under the direction of a Section Head. The contract provides for a period of preliminary training, for gradual integration in operations involving the Launcher Mechanical specialty during launch campaigns.

CANDIDATE PROFILE Degree from an engineering school or equivalent French or European university (first professional experience), or experienced technical manager, with good basic knowledge of general mechanics or industrial engineering, as well as IT. The tasks of this job run from execution of basic tasks to team leadership during launch campaigns. It therefore requires: • an ability to analyze and synthesize information • good organizational and methodological skills • ability to work in a team • good contact with people • high availability. Because Arianespace is an international business, you should be comfortable working in both French and English.

VACANCY NOTICE_CVA OFFICE IN PARIS

Background: Applicants may come from any CVA member city. Additional requirements would be: to have student status and be at least 18 years of age. Good knowledge of at least one of the two CVA working languages – oral and written - (English and French) is required. Knowledge of any other CVA language (Italian, Spanish and German) will be an asset.

Tasks: Detailed tasks and assignments will be defined with the selected candidate depending on his/her skills and experience. Applicants with the following skills will be welcome: • communication and outreach; • report drafting and layout, web design, webmaster tasks; • event planning and organization, database management; • translation and interpretation;

Place of work: At CVA office: 94 Bis rue de Suffren F-75015 Paris. CVA Office is located very close to the Head Office of the European Space Agency (ESA), where some facilities will be accessible by the intern. The CVA office is also not far from the Eiffel Tower. Other space-related associations share the same office floor, such as the International Astronautical Federation (IAF) and the EURISY association.

Period of the internship and working times: For 3 or 4 months (starting preferably from March 2010) 35h/week (Monday to Friday: 9h-12h /14h-18h). Two days of leave may be taken per month.

Compensation package: The selected student will receive a modest scholarship of 400 € net per month. Lunch on working days may be taken at the nearby ESA cafeteria at very affordable rates.

Internship agreement: it is mandatory that the selected student signs an internship agreement with his/her university and with CVA, following the model document of his/her university. Office material It is recommended that the intern brings his/her own laptop computer.
