Forum Ariane Lampoldshausen e.V.

The municipality of Hardthausen -which the village Lampoldshausen is part of- situated in the administrative district of Heilbronn has only 4,000 inhabitants. It is a rural residential community and does not have an advanced technical college or university, nor can it offer a host of splendid cultural activities like the other member cities. For that reason we are member of the Community of Ariane Cities as an association and not as a municipality on its own.

For that reason a network was set up with the Economic Development Corporation Heilbronn GmbH, which the towns and the municipalities of the administrative district of Heilbronn, the district itself and the city of Heilbronn belong to, so as to secure the support of the whole economic region with a population of 450,000 for this partnership in the Community of Ariane Cities.

The German Aerospace Centre DLR site Lampoldshausen operates the European Centre for Space Prolusion in an area of almost 40 hectares located in a part of the municipality called Lampoldshausen in the Harthäuser Forest. Space propulsion systems have been developed and tested there for 44 years. DLR has been involved in the European ARIANE launcher programme since 1979. For instance, the ARIANE 5 main engine is tested at DLR in Lampoldshausen.

The EADS Space Transportation GmbH has also been working together with DLR for the European space transportation at the site in Lampoldshausen for 40 years.
