Actors ans partners

The French Air Force Academy, the Air Force Base 701 and the Patrouille de France have always been a strong partner of Salon. They belong to the town patrimony and play a role in the city and its prestige.

The French Air Force Academy trains all officers who will be the future military experts in space utilization. The school trained most of the astronauts in Europe. 6 French astronauts come from the FAFA. In 1997, its flag flew into space on board the Atlantis space shuttle. Many courses and projects connected to space are taught and included in the officers’ training programme.

It binds partnerships with other space agencies such as NASA, the European Space Agency and the CNES.

The French Air Force also protects the fly zone around the Guyana Space Center, thanks to the Cayenne Air Base and the Radar site, also known as Toucan Radar, in Kourou, especially during launches. Most of the officers, as soon as they leave the Academy, will play a major role in this crucial mission.

What is related to space is very important for Salon and its surroundings, not only for the economic growth but also to teach science for the youngest and for research activities.

Today, Salon de Provence and the French Air Force Academy want to strengthen together the role of aerospace in the economy and science development of the city.
