Salon de Provence is located at the heart of southern Europe.
It was one of first towns to twin other European cities. Being an inspiration for artists throughout centuries, its environment and surroundings are something worth protecting to pass on to future generations.
Its tradition comes from its history, full of remarkable events and people, among whom there were two of the greatest minds of the Renaissance.
On the one hand, there was Adam de Craponne, called as the benefactor of the Provence region. His civil engineering enabled to dry the swamps around Arles and irrigate the dry lands of the surroundings of Salon.
On the other hand, Michel de Nostredame, also known as Nostradamus, was one of the greatest minds of the 16th century.
Having more than 41000 inhabitants, Salon de Provence offers the best ratio of the surroundings regarding the population growth. This fact was noticed by different institutional agencies and by many French newspapers and magazines. Le Point or les Echos sorted it as one of the most dynamic middle-sized cities. The French government included Salon de Provence among his top research and economy development centers.
Science and technology are one of the town’s main concerns. It hosts the Electric and Computer Engineering Department of the Technology Institute of Paul Cézanne Aix Marseille III University. One of its high schools prepares its students for the competitive exam to national colleges of engineering. The French Air Force Academy (FAFA) located on the Air Force Base 701 since 1937 is one of the town’s flagships.
The French Air Force Academy gathers all the five officer schools, focusing on space and aeronautics.
Salon de Provence is recognized as one of the top research centers for lasting development and agronomy and also for risk management and for aeronautics and space. This aerospace research center is composed of three main entities : The ONERA (French Aerospace Lab), the French Air Force Academy and the Air Force Research center.
